The Python Software Foundation (PSF) has withdrawn its $1.5 million grant proposal to the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) due to funding terms forcing a compromise on its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
I don’t own a pair of “programming” socks. I’m not the target audience for them. But if Python sold a pair to raise money? I could get behind that.

I get that for these people, DEI is short-hand for POC and LGBTQ+ people, but what exactly are they proposing instead? Monoculture, iniquity, and exclusion? That even sounds stupid. White people power?
Yes, it is exactly the middle-schooler mentality of “Nu-uh!” that they have going for them and nothing else.
They propose merit based inclusion.
It sounded from the PSF article that the biggest reason they rejected it, aside from the ethical concerns, was that they could be asked to give the money back if they are found to be violating that term anywhere and at any time. Even if they didn’t care about the term regarding DEI, the risk of being liable for $1.5m to the US government all because an orange blob didn’t like the logo is too great of a risk.

Hopefully this is a sign that organizations are beginning to recognize that capitulation to this regime has very little benefit and will only lead to increasingly unreasonable demands.
