They embrace them into the cold, rigid grasp of death.
I don’t think anyone expected them to go full EA before going full EA.
EA took down a ton of good development groups like Maxis and WestWood.
Absolutely, but at least they made a few games before shutting down the good studios!
Exhibit A why consolidation is bad.
While I say that, consolidation by a large company like Sony, MSFT, etc may not be bad for this reason, it can be bad for other reasons like how Activision treats its IPs after CoD. But then studios that have anything left but their IP may eventually be bought up, making consolidation an eventuality unless they themselves become big enough. Okay now my brain hurts.
It’s bad when the holding company can’t weather a streak of big budget flops. The Embracer Group has only a market cap of less than $4 billion yet they act like they are a Sony with their crazy buying spree of the last 5 years. They’ve over extended themselves.
Is a new Legacy of Kain and a new Deus Ex too much to ask out of life? I just want their stories complete!
Those aren’t the studios they’re closing. If you’ve even heard of the studios that closed I would be amazed.
