But, another thing, this also goes to show that Valve are likely in no rush at all on a Steam Deck 2. They simply don’t need to do one right now.
the only thing I need out of the deck 2 would be eGPU support. everything about my oled is basically perfect
The Steam Deck + OLED revision are pretty recent and nowhere near the age of a normal console cycle. The OLED revision was a pretty big upgrade and <1 year old. The internet is already desperate for a Deck 2? Valve could print money by doing what phone manufacturers do with miniscule yearly upgrades and forever creeping price. People would fall over themselves to avoid FOMO for the newest console. I’m really glad Valve is doing better than that.
I despise that mentality. It’s so gross. 🤢
Dude, I run Elden Ring in my desktop and stream it to my deck, no cables and lot’s of battery time. eGPU is cool if you use your steam deck as a PC.
i have no issues with my steam deck as it is now. just want a computer I can dock and have extra horsepower like the competitors have with their thunderbolt and usb4 support whenever steam decides to release a new one.
eGPU’s are the future of gaming.
or maybe i’m coping since i bought a laptop, whatever i’m still excited
While I would love that, I really can’t imagine valve being able to handle the logistics and driver support that would come with that endeavor.
The deck still has a lot of bugs, such as touch scrolling being broken if you try to scroll down in your library a few pages.
I can’t imagine valve handling “user has put the console in sleep mode, detached the console from the egpu dock, and woken it from sleep” without bugs
Sounds like most of that would be handled by the kernel with non-Deck-specific modules - it won’t forget to notify the userspace that a device has disappeared just because it was in sleep mode at the time it was physically disconnected.
The only problems I ever had with sleep on Linux were all inability to wake up some part of the motherboard or the GPU because of crappy firmware, never with connecting/disconnecting external stuff.
A second USB port wouldn’t hurt either.
Quick question, did you get the 512gb or 1tb version? Just wondering about OLED with and without that anti-glare treatment that the 1tb version has. I don’t think I need it since I don’t plan on playing in the bright sun, but thought I ask some random people online who are happy with their purchase which one they got.
I purchased the 512 GB one. I upgraded the drive to 1tb and gave the 512 to someone else. If I want anti glare on my screen, I’ll just add it myself. extremely happy with my purchase, the colors are fantastic
Thanks for the quick reply!
I have an anti-glare LCD version. My brother has a glossy OLED version. I would recommend going for the glossy version and using an anti-glare screen protector if you feel the need. Then you’ve got the option for either.
there’s no rush to get SteamOS on other devices.
IMO, that’s a mistake. Gamers switching from windows would probably enjoy having a linux distro published and maintained by a well-known company like Valve. It could help Valve create a new ecosystem where one can seamlessly connect ones PC and the Steam Deck with Valve services or something.
Imma deck you in the schnoz 😃
That’s a new one.
