Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your funniest case of misheard song lyrics?English
10·7 days agoNot mine but one day my buddy’s 6 year old asked “what’s parking tips?” My buddy being a veteran dad gives him some generic parking advice, doesn’t think much of it until later when he hears his kid singing along to the shaboozy song but instead of “everyone at the bar getting tipsy” he’s sing about how everyone getting parking tips.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things about the past people get wrong today?English
1·12 days agoI just asserting that people generally had more down time in the past.
By using total instead of share. Which also means there is even a more gigantic number of people with more wealth and leisure than any point in human history.
Do you see why using total number is mind numbingly silly?
I’m not sure about emissions per activity rankings but if you’re concerned about the emissions from a post, but surely that means someone watching a 4k movie on netflix is akin to a warcrime?

1·12 days agoAre you trolling?
The number of people living happily in luxury unimaginable to 99% of people who have ever lived is also FAR greater than at any time in human history.

2·12 days agoAbout .6% of the world is considered as living in modern slavery.
In say, the feudal era, that percentage would be some 70 or 80 times higher.
Maybe you should do some reading?

Just so dumb on so many counts.

Videos@lemmy.world•The Producers (2005) - Springtime For Hitler & Heil Myself SceneEnglish
2·14 days agoNever watched the new one but I occasionally get Springtime for Hitler stuck in my head because I guess my brain wants to see what happens if I accidentally mumble lyrics around people.
And that horse fucker won more votes than Kamala.
There’s a whole party where resistance to green tech is one of the items of faith, hundreds of millions of people. Not just a handful of oil execs. (And yknow, the millions who still use gasoline in their cars etc.)
Edit: That’s not to mention all those who like to fly places.
I don’t know if it is in general but social media has definitely made it so (or amplified it.)
I think moral outrage is one of the only forms of socially acceptable bullying, ie, you can say anything to someone who is transgressing whatever the trendy social outrage is. (Give someone shit for wearing child labour and “you don’t know…” Etc.)
One of the best bits of advice I’ve ever read was simply to put your phone facedown, out of reach when you want to do something.
It doesn’t always work but it cuts down my random phone nonsense by a lot.
Admittedly, ol hyperactive brain still gets lost thinking about dinosaurs or some shit too often but it feels healthier.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your first relationship like?English
31·19 days agoHonestly, most of my first few relationships were awkward bumbling affairs. Lot of heart, excitement and zero experience dealing with it all plus another person going through the exact same nonsense.
If you’re looking for advice that I would’ve loved, it’d be pretty basic; be safe, have fun and don’t ever let him make you ever feel uncomfortable.
