Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else get phrases stuck in their head the same way songs do?
2·4 days ago“that didn’t land right, go back and fix it”
Yes, I engaged in this a bit when I was pre-teen, but fortunately the thoughts disappeared once I started ignoring them. My brother has a really extreme, debillitating version of this where he gets stuck on almost anything and it ends up taking him 5x as long as a normal person.
- Keeps tightening his seatbelt in the car
- Closes the door several times
- Tries to place food perfectly in his mouth to eat it
- Placing pencils/cutlery down just right (the noise of this gets really annnoying)
- Repeats sitting down to land just right
- After brushing teeth, needs to drink from the tap in just the right way, tap ends up running for 5 minutes
- Used to have auditory ticks that satisfy this sensation (I used to have these too so I know what it feels like)
Poor guy doesn’t have the mental strength or mindfulness to push back against it. My country is backwards on mental health and doctors haven’t been able to tell us what it is but we suspect it’s some form of OCD. I on the other hand seem(?) to be lightly AuDHD.
I suspect the desk telephone must have done a lot more of the heavy lifting back in those days

9·4 days agoIt’s also a healthy habit to not feel compulsed to have an opinuon on everything. I’ve made a conscious effort to only form opinions on things that I perceive to be truly important. It has saved me so much stress.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a way to filter news on lemmy
10·5 days agoSo firstly, you’re gonna have to block communities left right and centre. Any news post – block the community.
Secondly, some apps let you institute keyword filters. Here are my keywords:
American EU Europe ICE Trump US conservative conservatives democratic democrats elon federal gop jd musk republican republicans senateI wish lemmy supported collaborative blocklists.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Does anyone else get phrases stuck in their head the same way songs do?
5·6 days agoMy brain sometimes keeps internally repeating the last thing I said, or part of it, looped like a sample in a song. Nothing too extreme, but it’s there.

5·6 days agoOh, my brain had things like this. I also had (have) minor ticks and I think this may go hand in hand woth that.

AI is going to make this so much worse. It can make unlimited fake news including photo and video ‘evidence’. And everyone can have their own to fit their preferred personal narrative. We truly do live in times.
