  • Yeah, I dunno what to say besides that it happened to me twice. Probably close to 25 years ago while upgrading my 12GB HDD to a 80GB Seagate Barracuda, I decided to try running both drives together for a whopping 92GB of storage. Whatever jumper combination I tried first ended up with one of the drives not being recognized, so I tried another combination, either both master or both slave, and the control board on the 12GB drive let out the smoke and that drive was never able to be recognized again. I don’t remember exactly what happened the second time, but I know it happened twice because I felt really stupid about not learning my lesson from the first time. Not saying there couldn’t have been something else going on, but they had keyed IDE headers that couldn’t have been reversed and no other issues until I tried the incompatible jumper combination.

  • No, the sign makes sense and highlights the main reason the Serbs are so opposed to the hotel. The proposed site was a historical building that was bombed by NATO during the war for Kosovo’s independence. Serbs pretty universally see those events as “American” bombings and often cite them as cause to despise the US. So, the sign is pointing out the insensitivity of an American developer building a hotel in that location by comparing it to a Japanese developer building a hotel in Pearl Harbor.

Given how deeply Serbia is within the sphere of Russian influence, I doubt they care one way or the other that it’s affiliated with Jared Kushner, they just don’t like that it would have been owned by an American.

It’s so easy to lose sight among all the gish-galloping nonsense around these topics just how long the problem has been almost fully understood and very clearly articulated. It’s absolutely devastating to think about how catastrophically the world has failed to meet the challenge he describes here in the intervening decades.

Exactly. You can’t possibly submit over 100 applications per week while also using any kind of reasonable discretion about wether the job is something you actually want to do, that you can actually do competently, somewhere that you can reasonably do it. You’re just an application shotgun at that point and you’re wasting the time of everyone involved.
