There’s some attempt to try and make it genuine, and there are guidelines around it to support that (e.g. 1 = barely noticeable, 3,4 = distracting, 5,6 = unignorable, 7,8 = prevents normal activities, 9 = prevents conversation)

But in practice you’re going to get about one in every dozen patients who engages with this scale in good faith and you’re going to get a number between 8-11 from everyone else.

  • Hey I was that weirdo that down voted this, and I assure you it was by accident and I changed it now. I actually never got the chance to play Apocalypse and hot damn, I had no idea it was a whole sequel, I thought it was an expanded release in the same vein as a bunch of the Persona games have (P3->FES, P4->Golden, P5->Royal).

So, amending my statement, play SMTIV and then play Apoc.

Also, excuse me, I have some shopping I need to do.

  • Leave Pokémon behind, play some Shin Megami Tensei, thank me later.

There’s a pipeline of former Pokémon fans thinking “Huh, these games have kind of gone to crap, I wish I had this same monster-collector style game but with a real plot and interesting characters” and then SMTIV falls from the sky like manna from heaven unto them.

I don’t think IV is actually the best SMT game, I think that honor goes to Nocturne - which is available on the Switch - but SMTIV is a good showing of the series that is available for 3DS. If you have the option, pick up SMTIV-Apocalypse, it’s an expanded “GOTY-style” re-release of IV, but the base game is also fine.

  • Off the top of my head:

    • Cast Fly yourselves or purchase/acquire some boots of flying
    • Elemental resistance or immunity vs the element of dragon’s breath you expect to be meeting, from the Protection From Energy spell or from equippable gear
    • If you’re confident in your spell save DC, Hold Monster is a fun one to cast on any flying creatures
    • buy a bow and arrow
    • better yet, buy a ballista and a mule to tow it around
    • buy a couple dozen health potions that you chug furiously on the rounds that you aren’t being breath-attack-strafed
    • have the fighter make consecutive grapple checks to Los Tiburon the dragon into the fucking dirt

There are a lot of ways to deal with this, you just have to get creative and maybe set yourselves a short side quest or two to acquire what you need for the real job. Half of the above suggestions can be accomplished by a single tactically minded cleric, and no arcane caster worth his salt isn’t going to know how to fly by level five, wizards that can’t fly generally don’t live very long and sorcerors that can’t fly don’t get laid.

  • Linux noob here, I’ve been running Mint for about a year and constantly bitching about my Nvidia card’s performance vs. Windows. I have the most updated closed source drivers installed, but cooking shaders on games still takes a half hour and many games run like trash even after precompiling said shaders. Space Marine 2 comes to mind, runs like butter on my Win10 partition but is basically unplayable on Linux.

Am I hearing that I just need to switch to Bazzite and this problem disappears?? Because on God I will do that literally tonight if that’s true. I had been holding out for a new batch of Nvidia proprietary drivers to hit the scene or else just resigning myself to having to buy an AMD card.

I’d expect that Bazzite and Mint would use the same Nvidia proprietary drivers without much noticeable change in performance, but to be honest I don’t know jack about shit about their back end behind the scenes processes so I could be wildly off base.
