So you see, this is actually great for the economy!

synae[he/him]@lemmy.sdf.orgto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a really popular TV show you just couldn't get into?English4·17 days agoMaybe view it through a different lens. It was a dark comedy to me. I was constantly bursting out laughing at how much these entitled pricks couldn’t get out of their own way. They just play it straight and never give a wink to the audience
synae[he/him]@lemmy.sdf.orgtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Some are called the great old ones for a reasonEnglish19·19 days agoIf I recall correctly, all Maiar (of which sauron is one) were created by Eru before time was countable, i.e. “in the beginning”. Once valinor and the two trees were created, time was counted by “the years of the trees” which were each approximately 10 of our years, and several thousands passed before the end of the First Age (and then of course the second and third ages happened). I assume someone did the appropriate conversion and got the number from there. It seems reasonable to me.
Plus, once you’re old enough to pour your cruelty, malice, and will to dominate all life into some jewelry, you stop counting the years, don’t you?
Sorry, that’s a huge turn off. Filesystem perms exist for a reason and should be respected
Oh definitely nothing as noble as that
I’m 40, haven’t been in school for 18 years, and “I can’t, it’s a school night” is a common refrain from me when my friends try to get me to stay out drinking. Everyone understands, no one argues (well, sometimes they’ll plead one more time). So, I will not be updating my phrasebook for correctness

Sn(eed)'s F(eed) and S(eed)
Substitute the new name and copy its suffix to the F and S words:
Ch(uck)'s F(uck) and S(uck)
Another less crude example would be
B(ill)'s F(ill) and Sw(ill) - presumably a bar and grill
