I just meant generally, not sure what ‘open source’ means in the context of ai (not a programmer)

They didn’t really praise them. They just hoped that the republicans would go back to being against big tech (like they used to be 10 years ago he claims). Obviously, Trump’s not going to do that but I think we can all agree big tech is a big problem
But his ‘support’ of the republicans was saying that 10 years ago they used to be against big tech and that he hoped Trump would vary that forward. Obviously Trump is very unlikely to do this but he is literally just hoping the republicans would do something about big tech that the dema didn’t do
Sure it might but the thing is it may still acknowledge that there are different opinions on some topics. Does reflect how whilst governments may have a narrative, people can say what they think. In China, that’s a different story…
True, hosting deepseek yourself is much better. I’d still wait and see if anyone finds weird stuff in the code itself but tbh idk how long that could take.
Can’t wait for the models to get better and hopefully stay open source!
Thank you, this covers everything I could have thought of!
I don’t think they are that biased. They say in the article that ai models from all the leading companies are not private and shouldn’t be trusted with your data. The article is focusing on Deepseek given that’s the new big thing. Of course, since it’s controlled by China that makes data privacy even less of a thing that can be trusted.
Should we trust Deepseek? No. Should we trust OpenAI? No. Should we trust anything that is not developed by an open community? No.
I don’t think Proton is biased, they are explaining the risks with Deepseek specifically and mention how Ai’s aren’t much better. The article is not titled “Deepseek vs OpenAI” or anything like that. I don’t get why people bag on proton when they are the biggest privacy focused player that could (almost) replace google for most people!
4x multi-framegen is just like 4x leveraging your position
Tried to walk there through my phone. It didn’t work either and think I broke my nose
I think your core message is completely true. But imho, probably this is what op is talking about with people yelling at their friend. Taking such a forceful stance will push those that are unsure away which is the exact opposite of what we need.
With that said, the fact that you just assumed their stance on politics from a generalised complaint of ‘my friend got yelled at’ is completely unfounded, unfair, and definitely will push away anyone who would consider themselves moderates. Baseless clames is literally how trump became elected and that’s not a good foundation for someone to get elected on
Very true, we need everyone to be open minded. Both those on the platform but also those coming in. I hope the comunity can keep the discourse constructive. Hope you can enjoy the platform!
I think it’s unfair to just assume they are far right cause they are American. Right wing? Sure. More likely to be far right? Also sure. This doesn’t mean we should not welcome them and then try to show them that their specific view points are unfounded (or maybe ours are, there’s the point of discussion). Not just assume they are Nazis when they just ask why people here seem different to them
Thanks for the explanation! Makes sense why people don’t like it now
Unfortunately thats the problem with the world atm. No one cares for the facts, just what ever fits their narrative
Tbh, I don’t think I agree. The only times I feel they can’t really be impartial “even if they say they are” is when they use a sponsors parts to build something. Or otherwise the whole video is sponsored but they kinda are reviewing the fevice. I don’t really like those videos but they are very clear about the fact that it is sponsored so viewers can at least down some salt whilst they watch the video. They also do state some issues they have with the products when they arise which is good (though obviously they may not say everything that’s wrong with it)
All these things listed are blunders (some quite big ones) but I think the person who responded to that comment with the opposing view makes a lot of sense. They added the nuance to the situation that the comment you linked to I think glasses over since they obviously don’t like Linus. Personally their (the response comments) take is where I stand on these issues too.
Obvious, as LTT has grown they have made mistakes but they have always explained their reasoning or otherwise apologised and tried to make things right.
Overall I think they are a force for good in the world. They teach millions about tech, how to use it, and how you can save money. As they become more corporate their passion may fade but I think it’s still there and I’ll probably keep watching their stuff for the time being
I see this a lot but I always wonder why is it bad? Didn’t seem that bad when I tried it
I’m definitely gonna come back to this when I try Linux again sometime this year when I have a moment to mess around!
Probably a dumb question but why is Ubuntu bad?
Tbh I found steam os alright mostly cause devs making stuff for it have put work into making things GUI based. That being said, I did try install some other stuff to see what I could do and it got confusing so maybe cause I only game on it it’s fine 😅.
I have used windows for all my life but the main reason I want to try switch to Linux is cause windows has gone to shit. Literally one of the 3 largest companies in the world can’t make a file explorer that actually works correctly. Plus MS pushing their own services hard is just so annoying.
I really hope this trend pulls through. Tbh, it’s my main reasoning for keeping calm about the whole situation.
Hopefully in 20 years we can look back and say that the 2020’s were a crazy time. And not that mechaTrump is living in his nuclear bunker after he caused the world to nuke itself over some mexican immigrants or some shit like that. Would be nice 😁
