Hi! I was wondering if there is a limit of communities I can create, I have created 3, wanted to create want more but I am unable to do so. And If someone is wondering yes, I read the start guide and the 3 communities I have created didn’t exist before, well one already exists but it has been inactive for 2 years, so I decided to go ahead anyway!
I don’t believe there’s a limit. My instance certainly doesn’t have one. If there’s a void and you feel like you’ll have a reasonable amount of content to share over time then why not? I’ve probably made close to ten. Everyone’s always saying we need more niche content, right?
Only potential pushback would be that too much of the fediverse is consolidated on lemmy.world as it is and new communities may benefit by being spread out on other instances.
But overall more is always better regardless.
Edit: try to spread things over days/weeks too to ensure a steady stream of content. If you build it [they] will come.
There’s a limit to this with a userbase of 55k monthly active users. OP, feel free to join !fedigrow@lemm.ee to see conversations on this topic
Oh quite useful! Thank you
Happy to help, see you there
Yeah, yeah
Edit: it’s just also still worth trying sometimes. Trust your gut.
Okay got it! I mean I am not creating the communities mainly to create content myself, of course I like to post and share stuff sometimes, but I am trying to move away from Reddit, but most of the most important communities I have there I cannot find them here. So, I thought if they are not here Imma create them, but I missed the part of the content xdd, it is worthless to create them if the content is not there. I indeed need to rethink the approach
Yup, trust me, we’ve already been through lots of dead communities being made. I’m not saying you need to directly make the content but find articles, videos, etc. to post still.
You are right!
If you have maybe ten things in mind to start you could spread those out over a week or two and hopefully if it’s something you’re passionate about you can continue to add to that list. That’s how I’ve been able to grow some of mine. And I continue to be surprised how often that leads to at least one other user posting something fairly quickly.
Like anything consistency is key. More people are joining* the platform all the time and many people browse all by Scaled or New.
Good feedback! Thank you!
I rarely posted on reddit but when I came over here I felt more incentive to contribute.
Me too, also because I want to stay in Lemmy but gotta be honest the amount of content, at least the content I am looking for, I miss it a lot
