Dang that’s actually really sad. Omegle, for all its faults, was sort of like the weird alleyway that you could go to and know that you’d have some kind of interesting experience.

I’m sad to see it gone.

I’ve used it a few times when I was bored and had some random conversations about different topics. I didn’t really like the format to be completely honest. I’d rather use reddit and other platform’s like these.

While this is not for me it sucks that people that abuse these services are a big part of why they are shutting down. It sounds to me like they where actively in contact with law enforcement to battle crimes that where commited there and kudos for that!

    Wow, that’s a shock. RIP.

I’ll most miss the musicians spreading random delight. Those were always fun to watch.

Agreed. Very well written. Clearly Leif is a person that should be a leader in the communication space. Its such a shame that we’re losing him to this fight. :(

Noooo! I was just on Omegle talking to strangers from around the world last week! I used it occasionally for a decade and had a lot of fun talking to people. This hurts.

Oddly, I found myself going back many times over the past 15 years or so. Something about the simplicity kept me going intrigued. Guess Trollegle/bellawhiskey, and whatever other chatrooms died as well

That’s sad. I’m sorry for the girl and others who got molested over the internet but I don’t really see that as the sites fault. How about poor parental supervision? Just let an 11 year old use the internet with free reign and don’t notice when she’s sending a pedo photos for 3 years?
