As long as they focus on making the skiing feel good and projectile weapons dominate, I think they have a good recipe here.

Never knew why Tribes didn’t hit it off in the e-sports scene, it seems real ripe for that. I think Ascend stepped away from the classic Tribes experience to get to that and lost what made the experience unique.

Here’s hoping the new team does well.

I’m gonna say it never took off because its fucking difficult. Trying to get an aerial shot off on a guy zooming through the air at 100 mph while you are also bouncing around at 100 mph and leading them properly because your projectile takes time to travel is not easy even for players experienced with shooters. Great game, I always had fun with the old ones, but most of my friends just could not keep up. Shit, I’m getting older, I dunno if I can keep up anymore. It’s cool to see this coming back, but I expect it to remain a niche game.

In Ascend I played the engineer/technician class, so I’d put my turret somewhere that would hit a lot of players without it getting spotted. Skiing would be to get to those hard to spot places

But that’s exactly what would make it an amazing esport. It not only requires tons of skill, but looks awesome if you do have that skill. Seeing people accurately predict someone’s movements when they are travelling really fast has a very tactile feel for the spectator, without having much game knowledge.

In addition, skiing fast over a vast landscape looks cool too!
