  • I finally kicked my Destiny 2 habit by installing Linux, and while I absolutely miss the gameplay and my team, I haven’t really looked back. I’m involved and interested in so many other things now. I still see the odd post that gives ma a pang of FOMO, but the thought of booting into my windows install makes me want to peel my skin off with tweezers.

Not an MMORPG by any means, but I’ve been really enjoying a “Minecraft like” called Vintage Story that is giving me the same feeling. The commodification of Minecraft has finally frustrated me enough and I’m jumping ship.

  • Me tooooo!! I literally just stuck my hand out with the note and looked at my feet lol. I like to think that awkwardness further helped diffuse things a bit. Like if someone sort of aggressively handed me a piece of paper while holding strong eye contact I would be waaayyy more creeped out than someone that’s doing it a bit shyly/awkwardly.

  • Agreed!! Tho it’s not quite my speed. I once slipped someone a note with my number on the train because saying that out loud in a crowded public space makes me want to turn inside out. It was cute, they reached out and we went on a sort of date, and settled at friends. I’ve done similar a couple times since and it’s always been positive.

I feel like getting handed a ripped off piece of someone’s bookmark or something with their name and number is very disarming. It gives agency to the person being approached, which I think makes the whole interaction much less weird than you’d think. For a hot sec I thought about making a business card style thing, but I think that makes it weird again. Takes the “meet cute” vibe out of it when you seem over prepared for the occasion.

Worth noting I like to include my age if I do this, as I look quite young for almost 30 (I blame the HRT lol) and I just want people to have that detail before they choose to reach out or not.

Oh also the original post would 1000% work on me.

  • I was about to say something similar. Like I started wearing some “women’s” underwear and running shorts even before I realized I wasn’t a guy. Obviously for people that aren’t trying to hide things I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it, but some of the underwear I have now is just better than tons men’s underwear I wore pre-transition. Just materials, and seam placement, and color options, all of it. You can still find boxers and everything. It’s kind of just better.

  • I’ve stopped playing since Microsoft copilot was announced and I fully ditched windows, but I held on until the final raid because of the gun play, nostalgia, and the representation present in both the studio and the game. I grew up with the Marathon games, and the early Halo series. The DNA of those games is still there and I can’t help but love it. I’ve been chasing a single player experience that gets even close to Destiny’s feel for so long. The System Shock remake is getting close, but I would love a PvE only game from Bungie. For a long time (read pre-Sony-buyout) Bungie was also a sort of hold out for various minority representations I try to support. The studio’s media showed an employee base that is diverse and they often did a good job pushing back against players saying any sort of agenda was being pushed just for including diversity in the game. This made them a company I was much more willing to throw money at, compared to say, activision/blizzard. That sentiment as largely faded for me as the studio had been turned into a “for the shareholders” cow Sony can milk.

In rock climbing we use “Gumby” no clue why.

EDIT: I’d like to clarify I agree about the gatekeeping this reinforces and this really doesn’t get used often, and if anything it sees more use among friends for silly reasons, like missing a Velcro on a shoe or something. Like I said I don’t know the origin because I don’t really engage with the “joke” that much.

  • I’ve hit a point where I’ll ask staff for their Venmo and pay them directly if I really feel compelled to support them for quality service. Particularly at a lot of bars or clubs I do this. I don’t really drink much, so I’ll often go whole nights just getting waters from a bartender and then ask them for their Venmo so I can still tip them for all the free water. I’m also generally willing to tip well at local small businesses where half the time I know the people working there.
