The main point they were making is that the meme is particularly old, pre-dating the modern Internet - the dominant medium of memes. As such, you could certainly say, perhaps somewhat hyperbolically, that it’s one of the first. Not sure why some people expect whatever another writes in an internet comment to be 100%, to-the-letter, literally true, when that’s not at all how we use language from day to day.
They didn’t say it was “the first.”
Ok…?
Sounds like a qualification for Cirque du Soleil.
I’m in my mid 30s and heard this rumor in middle school, it’s definitely old. At the time it was supposedly Marilyn Manson who did it.
Growing up in the south eastern US vending machines were a common sight in a number of public spaces, and they were completely fine. No idea what third-world parts of the country the rest of these people grew up in.
Even with JavaScript disabled, I’m only seeing the first paragraph of the article.
Unfortunately a dollar in cut costs is more valuable than employee talent these days.
I’d love to work in Antarctica. I’d never pass the psych evaluation, though. Would be just my luck I’d have one of my major depression episodes and decide it’s a good idea to go freeze to death in the frozen desert. Given how great my last few days have been, it honestly doesn’t sound like a terrible idea now.
Great stance you have on mental illness there.
Are you always this fun when someone says something facetious around you? Go pop a Prozac. They worked wonders for me.
“Go for the high score” is definitely a thought that crosses my mind every time I see one of those speed radar things the police sometimes put on the side of the road that flashes your speed at you. Kinda feel like those things actually encourage unsafe driving because of people like me with impulse control issues.
Could have just smeared shit on the front page themself instead of finding a washed up celebrity to do it.
Plato wasn’t writing in some long-dead obscure language that we only have vague translations of, it was Greek. It’s not a matter of interpretation.
One of the many racist stereotypes about black people is they are naturally more athletic due to physical differences between the races. I remember when I was in high school in Mississippi, one of the things you’d often hear is that black people can jump higher - or the more subtle way to put it, white men can’t jump.
I think they meant the upstairs neighbors, lol
Well, you’re going to have a bad time on the internet, where the vast majority of people aren’t interested in catering their speech to a general audience to your or anyone’s individual preferences. The “general audience” aspect of public forums on the internet is why I’m not directly addressing you - I, nor I doubt many others here, give two shits that using a bit of hyperbole or exaggeration, particularly when making a flippant comment about something as trivial as how old a meme is, gives @three@lemm.ee the ick.
At any rate, I can’t be bothered to take this thread as seriously as you, so I’m going to be disengaging now.
