I take it that you were referring to Mull (Browser) and not MullVad (VPN service).

The good thing is that Firefox has got some decent forks like Librewolf, which are worth exploring if one is okay with slightly delayed updates.

It was surprising to see this from Firefox, and even more unsettling was the fact that this was turned on by itself in my desktop firefox settings since the last update. So it was opt-out by default, while I expected this to be opt-in, just like their telemetry.
