Nice little qualifier you added there. Cause it’s generally accepted that the God of Abraham ordained killing at least two million people prior to the birth of Jesus Christ. I get the sense that you’re perspective is that if God does it then it must be just and you want to prove anyone who thinks otherwise is wrong. If that’s the case, you’re in the wrong place my friend.

You’re absolutely right, stats are a very misunderstood subject. It’s difficult to contextualize stats like this when the population is so large. My measurement for when I got old was when I started to meet old friends and at some point in the conversation we begin talking about other friends who we both knew who’ve passed away since the last time we’ve talked.

  • Yeah it’s hard to say what form a subscription might take. I hope it’s for a developer version and they leave home alone. Actually I hope it doesn’t happen at all but who am I kidding? I expect to be paying a subscription for DLSS in 5 years. What I can easily imagine happening is that a base version of Windows will be free and they’ll teir the available features and services through the subscription. They don’t want to lose their dominance in the market.

  • Honestly everything the Nazi’s did, the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom did first the Nazis just scaled it up big time. Modern concentration camps, British. The idea of The Final Solution, Canadian. Forced sterilization and eugenics, born in Europe but expanded upon by the United States. At least Canada is trying to find justice for the victims of it’s past. Even if it’s obviously failing. Is Canada genocidal now, no. We’re they, absolutely. Are they do enough to reconcile, not even close.

I think what the commenter was explaining was the difference between a hypothesis and a theory.

This is for anyone else you seem to know the difference. Just as an fyi to anyone who doesn’t know the difference, most laypeople say theory when they mean hypothesis.

    • A hypothesis is “an assumption, an idea that is proposed for the sake of argument so that it can be tested to see if it might be true.”

    • A theory is “a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained.”

That’s not very helpful, but basically a hypothesis is an untested answer whereas a theory is a whole lot of similar hypothesis’s that have been answered and can be used to predict something.

So when your crazy uncle/friend/co-worker says ‘i have a theory that they’re turning the damn frogs gay and I’m going to prove it.’ They actually mean hypothesis. Why is this important? Cause words matter, that crazy person would be taken a lot less seriously if they didn’t use words they didn’t understand.

  • We do have an answer, we have several in fact. The problem is capital, regulations, and NYMBY. Breeder reactors can run on nuclear waste, but they’re incredibly expensive to build and could be easily modified to create weapons grade nuclear materials. So maybe not the best idea while we’re all still thinking about blowing each other up. We can bury it deep underground, look at Onkalo, Finland. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onkalo_spent_nuclear_fuel_repository

Many other locations have been suggested in many other countries, but the moment something is labeled high-nuclear-waste storage it’s impossible to get approved. In my opinion storing it deep underground is fine, it’s transporting it to that facility that worries me.

Point in your favor though, why put more money and effort into nuclear than is necessary when that same money can go to renewables? Nuclear power absolutely makes sense in select places and shouldn’t be ignored. It should grow a little but it’s already obsolete compared to alternatives.
