23·3 months agoI love that everyone’s recognizing it the second that 99% of the people there are going to die of starvation because its already at the point that its irreversible

World News@lemmy.world•Israeli cruise ship turned away from Greek island by Gaza war protestEnglish
121·3 months agoWhere would you stand in the 40s? You seem to be very okay with a genocide of Palestinians right now so just wondering
Just because something was done to you does not make it fair or give you the right to do it to someone else.
Yes i get that
But we also live on an oblong sphere, which is 3 dimensional
The axes of north and south, east and west, are two dimensional
If you have a ship that can sail through anything, with infinite provisions, and you sail past the south pole, you will end up going north. That doesnt suddenly discount the fact that up until a certain point, you were going south. If the sea is immediately around the island, which it is, and is on the opposite side of the exact point of the axis, i wouldnt call that a misnomer.
When you are in that area you’re essentially sailing south until you’re sailing north. If we came at it from the other side it would likely be called something different.
Tell me you didnt read my comment without telling me
The map he linked literally shows the Ross sea south of Antarctica.
Also since its earth is spherical and its near the south pole you can really go any direction and find a sea… that just becomes a matter of perspective.
In this case, specifically, the wedell sea is to the north of the continent
Just looking at that map seems to show the Ross sea to the south
I dunno my friends are pretty solid with emotional support when drunk or sober its not that complicated
I know shes a bigot and hates trans people, but i do think people are overlooking the fact that this was a kids series. This wasnt meant to be read and deconstructed and analyzed by adults.
When I read the books as a kid I really enjoyed the world. Some things made me pause or think, but for the most part it was a fun adventure. When I read it again in college, I couldn’t get through the first or second book because of how poor I found the writing.
But again, it is a children’s book. I dont reread Famous Five or Noddy anymore either. I used to love the Redwall series, but when I went back to read a couple last year I found I couldn’t get into it as much as I did when I was 10.
Are they the best books or even the best kids books in the world? Definitely not. Is she a brilliant writer? Definitely not. But were the stories engaging and fun and did they give a lot of children an intro to reading and fantasy? 100%. They became popular because even kids who hated reading enjoyed these stories. She might be a miserable awful person now but that doesnt change what these books did for a lot of good people too.
You’re totally right there’s absolutely no evidence of a vast majority of women being physically attacked or assaulted after rejecting a man who couldn’t handle rejection…
Also if you got a thousand rejections before getting one yes then that might be a huuuge reason to look at yourself and how you come across. Hundreds of thousands of rejections have to be because of the person themselves, not the hundreds or thousands of people rejecting them.

The CDU has also made it very clear they’re not going to work with the AfD

Games@sh.itjust.works•PSN downtime compensation criticised by PlayStation fans without PS Plus who were still unable to play gamesEnglish
41·9 months agoThing is there are quite a few games you just can’t play without PSPlus
Which is absolutely shitty but if you’re like me and you don’t game crazy heavy, just play a couple games here and there, and one or two of the games you actually enjoy requires ps plus to work, you’re out of luck.
I generally don’t use ps plus for anything else - once in a while they have a free game that’s really good, but in general I agree it would not be worth it if it was not for the fact thatbthey stop you playing certain games without it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•DAE feel a bit out of the pop culture loop using Lemmy as their primary social media?
4·9 months agoHow exactly do you support a genocidal state and the people it’s genociding at the same time?
You don’t think that’s a massive contradiction?
My guy I’m exceptionally left wing in my politics I’m not even close to centrist. I’m not sure how you got that from my response.
I mean she entirely was.
And considering the US blocked every ceasefire under her and Biden, and people pointed out even a year ago that the US and Israel want an alternative to the Suez canal, and people pointed out that Israel was moving Palestinians out with the US’s help in order to do this, all that happened. Pretty sure it was going exactly the same way. If you haven’t noticed, democrats aren’t exactly sitting up and saying this is ethnic cleansing or genocide even now. Or trying to fight it.

What the fuck are you talking about humans have perfected murdering each other in countless ways for thousands of years
