  • Maybe not an alternative site, but an alternative perspective. Instead of looking at all items on lemmy, try finding and subscribing to communities that pique your interest, then viewing by subscribed communities.

I know it’s not what you were specifically asking for, and it’s a little more work than just sliding into another site, but it will give you the opportunity to weed out information you are not interested in.

  • My dampness sensors went south a long time ago. Cleaned the whole thing out and everything. I’m also at least the second owner. The contacts in the load selection knob also had worn away from use and I had to repair them. I’ll be happy to get another three to five years out of it.

I just use the timed dry now and send slightly smaller loads through. It’s much more efficient.

  • IDK about where the person you are replying to is from, but I see it as a viable strategy in the US. There are too many stories of children playing with guns and killing someone. Teaching firearm safety and demystifying them is like teaching sex ed.

Not having firearms everywhere is a better answer, but I can only control so much.

  • I used this method. My dog used to get so rough that I was concerned that he was going to hurt someone.

Adding to it, when play stopped, I turned away and ‘sulked’ because body language means so much. Also, I added in a toy for tug of war, and whenever the play escaped the toy I said ow and play was done.

This took a few months to really sink in for the dog, but we got to the point where he would play, we would say to get a toy, and there was no more leaping for limbs.

Some long time later, we were to the point where I could hold his teeth for gentle tug of war, but he decided he didn’t like my skin in his mouth.
