Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How could we go about making a jurisdiction where advertising is illegal?English
2·1 hour agoYou would have to commit political suicide to even get a bill on the docket to limit the amount of commercial pollution. It is just one of those things that’s so knee-deep, it would take tireless efforts to overcome.

Technology@lemmy.world•Is The New York Times a games company? A familiar debate continuesEnglish
111·3 hours agoUninformed? The headline was a stupid question and the article is presumable stupid. What valuable information would I gain by reading such a trivial thing? None. So, yes, I’m blessed to not be informed about something that ultimately doesn’t matter to me. Get bent. Or cry through downvotes, whatever floats your boat. :)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s your golden rule for the internet?English
31·14 hours agoSimilar to treat others as they treat you. I can’t count how many times, people have decidedly confronted me to be a asshole of a bastard, then are quick to play the victim fiddle soon as it is handed right back at them. Don’t be a prick or you’ll get the treatment right back. I don’t care what you’re going through or anything, I’ll automatically assume you’ve got no life going for you to be acting like a bitch to people online.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you know youre getting burnt out at work?English
2·14 hours agoYou take more time off than you want to. When I began my current job, I was on for 5 days a week. And I ran with that ball for a good year and a half. But, I started to use PTO/PPTO like nobody’s business and I even took hits on my points. I keep skirting at 4.5 points because it’s just not fun and rewarding to do what I do anymore.
When I keep coming in and having to correct people’s mistakes, on top of what I’m assigned to do and how I’m to be someone’s crutch when they aren’t pushing themselves. It’s demoralizing. I haven’t even begun to talk about how many times I’d be complimented for what I do, only for management to turn around and backhand me the moment we have 1 on 1 conversations over concerns about performance. Quick to praise, but quicker to break you down.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you know youre getting burnt out at work?English
2·14 hours agoOh yeah, I’m up there now. If my manager disagrees with my performance and thinks I’m not doing enough for the store despite me breaking my ass for them for years. I’d consider that sweet release. I wouldn’t even care how behind on bills I’d get or anything. Long as I’m out of that damn environment.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some hobbies that are generally looked down on but are not really problematic?English
32·14 hours agoCollecting funko pops or figures in general. It’s kind of like watching cartoons as an adult, where people buy figures of their interests for display. There’s some art there to the figures themselves and even the funko pops. Why do you have to immediately make it your business to shame others for collecting them? They say it’s contributing to the landfill and all that shit. Well, that is if they’re buying the figures to destroy them or burning the vinyl plastic itself for no reason.
But that’s not what they’re doing, so get over it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some hobbies that are generally looked down on but are not really problematic?English
81·14 hours agoBecause it is weird, to be honest. There’s no shame in watching children’s cartoons in general, but the problem is when people go out of their way to promote it. A lot of us don’t really need to know, especially those that go the extra mile to re-create their saturday morning routines down to wearing PJs and eating cereal to watch cartoons. If you’re going to put that out there, then you can’t expect people to not judge you a little over it or get a head tilt.
There are just somethings that should be reserved and enjoyed in private.

Games@lemmy.world•Why are we not getting stress relief games where we take our stresses out on normal people?English
3·3 days agoIf anything, Josh showcases to us that the games he breaks or gets creatively chaotic in, are games we should avoid. Some of them anyways, like a lot of those awful simulator-based games. I don’t know why anyone in the world would think we would need simulator-based games on already menial IRL work. I would just get PTSD if I was forced to play those games like they expect me to.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is privacy important? Be specific.English
7·3 days agoTo put it simply - it’s not anyone’s fucking business of what I do. Government needs to stay out of my bedroom and love life as to who I decide on who I want to love, bar doing it with minors understandably. Churches need to stay out of it too.
It’s not my workplace’s business to pry into my personal life about why it affects me and my performance. They should just understand that people have bad and good days and leave it at that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you decide if you are living a “good life?”English
51·3 days agoIf you can look back on the road you’ve ridden in your life and just have as few regrets as possible, then you’ve made your life as well as it could’ve been with the cards you’ve been dealt. When it is a very confidently-backed ‘Good enough’ than one where you feel like you could’ve done more.
