Man, love all the options 🤣 I assumed there would be one or two, but it seems we have tons of options. Thanks for the great info!

I’m pretty sure Ireland is where all the major companies are “headquartered” and technically keep all their money there for tax reasons. Ireland could just freeze the bank accounts of Apple, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Intel, … Or do something similar if they so choose as retaliation. Would be devastating financially afterwards, but would get the US’s full attention

As someone who is flirting with the idea of attempting to own my media, I have a question for you. If I couldn’t find a torrent for some song I wanted, is there a recommended tool or path for “collecting” my own version of a song? I don’t see myself getting into such a situation where I want some super obscure song, but knowing I have a path for getting a version from one of the major streaming services to bridge any gap I come across would be nice. Where would one go to learn how to safely collect rare/difficult to torrent music files?
I’ll commit to commenting more. I prefer to lurk, but the fediverse needs me 🤣

Tax the property. Tax it so high they have to sell it, creating a greater supply of property which then reduces the price of property and the cost of living. Economics 101

I’m no authority on anything involved in such an idea, but I just can’t imagine how the economics of a vacuum tunnel could be viable. The maintenance costs on constantly running lots of industrial scale vacuums sounds crazy expensive. I hate trying to keep good suction out my vacuum cleaner and imagine at huge scales things get harder, not easier. Maybe there are clever people who have a solution for that and it’s not a big deal though. No clue.

I advocate for a fork of uBlock: adnauseam. It’s a bit financially adversarial which I deeply enjoy, at the cost of using a bit of data. In theory if it built up enough users, advertisers would stop buying clickable ads all together.
This is probably just user-agent sniffing, right? I’d say swap it out to one that claims you’re on windows and see if that fixes it. Good luck :)

I’ll echo that I have felt an algorithm change. I watch a lot of leather crafting videos and a lot of Adam Savage videos. In the past week I’ve been getting Adam Savage working on leather videos and I’ve been thrilled to discover these. As someone who’s been watching both Adam Savage and leather crafting videos for months or maybe years, I should have already seen these, but somehow missed these until this past week. Now YouTube shows me video after video of Adam Savage working on leather, which I love.
What is the best place for news? I feel like Lemmy is where I get my news. I’m wondering if I should be paying for a news service like ground news or something. These journalists should be paid for the work they do, and I feel like I’m not doing that as of right now. I’m using Adnauseum, so technically every ad is getting clicked then blocked, so the site may actually get some ad revenue, but I’m wondering if a paid news service is the right thing to do. If Apple news is wrong, and Google news is wrong, what is right? Or perhaps what is least wrong?
