I’m a mid-career mechanic in the USA. I found my last job on Indeed.

There were TONS of mechanic jobs available in my area (Seattle). I was able to be really picky.

Depends on the jurisdiction. I got a decent severence and was still eligible for unemployment in WA state USA.

I love to ride and rebuild motorcycles. It’s so satisfying getting a crusty old bike and making it a reliable machine again.

It does influence how I think of myself. I’m proud of being able to disassemble and reassemble an entire motorcycle.

It’s an amazing feeling going down the highway on two wheels, knowing that the machine underneath me used to be a pile of parts in boxes.

Some of them have been kind of funny because the poster had some sort of decent comedic idea. I’m happier to see this type.

For real, internal combustion engines are made way better than they used to be. Both in terms of reliability and power output.

You can get a small, ICE only (non-hybrid) car that gets 40+ MPG. You can buy a new car with a warranty that makes over 800 horsepower.

The IC engine is at its peak. Electric is the future, but the current crop of ICE are incredible machines.

I’ve used Windows since 3.1. I was installing Windows 10 on a laptop a few years ago. The changes they’d made to core functions were so frustrating, I felt like I didn’t know how to use Windows anymore.

I figured I might as well try a new OS. It’s not like I loved Windows.

I did a dual boot with Windows and Ubuntu. I never logged into Windows again.

I’m not obsessed or an evangel. I don’t code. I don’t mess around with the OS. I browse the internet and do some piracy. That’s it.

I think it’s great that Linux is mature enough that a dumb user like me can easily switch over from Windows.

It’s very tempting to shamash that button. Intelligence is lionized. It’s high praise to call someone a genius. I’d probably wait on any button pushing until I’m old enough to have some cognitive decline.

I’m no genius. I’m a bit above average intelligence. And I have to say, I’m not sure it’s done much to improve my overall happiness.

Like many gifts, it’s a double-edged sword. Having a higher capacity for language, problem solving, and memorization has done a lot to ostracize me for my peers over the years.
