  • The rabbit/hare as a fertility symbol is a pretty frequent one across a lot of cultures, kinda like solar deities with solstice holidays. The cult of Ishtar died out in the 600s, the first mention of a tradition of an egg laying hare in connection with the Christian holiday is specifically from Germany a thousand years later.

  • The bunny is primarily a German tradition. It became prevalent in the US because of the high volume German immigrants. However, the bunny was already spreading throughout the Hapsburg Monarchy prior to America exporting its version. Decorating eggs is also a Slovenian tradition that came to prominence when what would be become the US was still just colonies. Not a lot of pop culture getting shipped back to Europe back then.

  • Validating that I was being abused. Everybody else either didn’t want to talk about it, told me I was the problem, or justified it. I had become self-destructive because I didn’t know what I was. Was I crazy? I was pretty sure i was the victim, but maybe I had brought it on myself. Maybe it was in my head. Maybe what was happening was normal and my expectations were off. Being told what was happening was indeed what I thought was going on and to build a support network to get out was life-changing. I mean, I’m still a fucking mess, but less of one. Probably need to fix my sleep schedule.

  • Because society has decided parental rights override teenage autonomy. Runaway and they’ll call the cops, who will return you to them, or if they want to be asses, throw you in juvie. So you maliciously comply while expressing your utter disdain for them until you attain the age of majority, then you abandon them and move on with your life. At that point you become a wage slave, have to live somewhere, and much like Dark Helmet, realize you’re surrounded by assholes.
