  • It’s so frustrating too because the atmosphere, casting, acting, even the characters are really compelling. But they just absolutely refused to take any risks. It’s like they just didn’t get the whole point. Rey needed to become a gray character, and kylo needed to be redeemed. And they both had to live with it and shoulders the burdens of their past. Luke needed to accept that ultimately people are people and you can’t expect to entirely subvert either your baser or more noble emotions and instincts.

  • I have anxiety as well. I’m not saying that your problem is the same as kine, but I’m going to tell you what happens to me so that maybe it’ll make you worry a little less. I generally have a very slight ringing in my ears. Most people probably wouldn’t notice it but I’m autistic so I do. If I have to increase my dose of antihistamines for my allergies, I will have a noticeable increase and qualitative change in the ringing. If I am overly stressed and my anxiety level is higher than usual, I’ll have more ringing. If I get less sleep than I need I will have an increased ringing. It’s not always the same in both ears either.

I’m not telling you it’s nothing but stress. That would be irresponsible. I am telling you I get the same symptoms and it’s nothing but stress and usually resolves in a few days once I get myself under control.

On another note, I would really recommend doing something about your anxiety. Brief high intensity exercise works well, if you can handle it. Guided meditation works well too, even if you hate the whole idea of it (like I do). The best overall remedy is probably to get adequate, good quality sleep, but I know how hard that can be. The easiest immediate relief is blood pressure medicine, if that is an option for you. For instance, if you lay down to rest you should not be able to hear your heart beat. If you can, your blood pressure is too high and you should get it dealt with, because it will absolutely make your anxiety substantially more manageable. Whether or not the anxiety is the problem with your hearing, dealing with it will improve your life, and from one person with anxiety to another: friend, it’s obvious from your post you need some help with this.

For the time being, if you need a short relief from the ringing, I’ve found that certain types of computer generated noise played through headphones will stop my ringing, at least for a few minutes. You might want to try that, just be careful not to play it too loud.

  • I work in a technical field, and the amount of bad work I see is way higher than you’d think. There are companies without anyone competent to do what they claim to do. Astonishingly, they make money at it and frequently don’t get caught. Sometimes they have to hire someone like me to fix their bad work when they do cause themselves actual problems, but that’s much less expensive than hiring qualified people in the first place. That’s probably where we’re headed with ais, and honestly it won’t be much different than things are now, except for the horrible dystopian nature of replacing people with machines. As time goes on they’ll get fed the corrections competent people make to their output and the number of competent people necessary will shrink and shrink, till the work product is good enough that they don’t care to get it corrected. Then there won’t be anyone getting paid to do the job, and because of ais black box nature we will completely lose the knowledge to perform the job in the first place.

  • Trailers work, but they’re not easy to get in and out of wherever you’re going. Most cars don’t come with a hitch, so you’d have to add that as well. You don’t just tow a trailer around for fun, so if you frequently find yourself needing to move something or buy something with little notice it’s not a good solution. Then there’s parking.

Listen, most people don’t need a truck. Or an SUV. Or a trailer. And no one needs a truck with a hood that’s 6 feet off the ground. Plenty of people use their pickup trucks a lot and the other options have massive tradeoffs.

I own a trailer because I didn’t want to have to get a truck and I’ve found it inconvenient enough I’m looking at buying a truck in the next couple months.

  • Not going to pretend that Frozen 2 is my favorite movie, but having seen it dozens of times with my kids…

The dam wasn’t the problem. It was a symbol of the problem, which was the rift between the 2 peoples living in such close proximity. Nature is indifferent, people are not. Nature doesn’t care if there’s a dam, it just becomes a different habitat. People should have cared about impacting each other’s way of life.

Nature removed the dam, and the barrier to the people coming together, when the responsible parties decided to right their wrongs and consider each other, regardless of the high cost. Even if that’s not the case, the story remains that nature’s power has to be harnessed to a purpose by people. But I think they were going for the former.

Anyway, not a great movie, but also not a plot hole.
