  • Been coding Java for about 15 years now. Pretty much agree - anon’s primary mistake was using javaFX. From a junior dev perspective I can see why they’d do that, but Java isn’t really meant for building desktop applications, it’s meant to power web apps.

What they should have done instead is create a backend restful web service and wire up a frontend rest client with something suited to web app ui dev such as angular or react. Java has some awesome frameworks built for it over the years, something like spring boot would make building that backend service trivial if you know how to use it. JAX-RS/Jersey or even servlets could be utilized for this instead, if you wanted to.

Spring boot has some nice tooling for thread management, but Java also has pretty good options for this built in as well. As chunky mentioned, if you aren’t already versed in concurrency patterns, don’t try to perform concurrent operations or you’re gonna have a bad time. But do learn how to do this, because exploiting concurrency is one of the golden rules of good computing.

  • This was my first thought. When I learned how to drive, the rule was one car length per 10 mph. So at highway speeds of 70, that would be 7 car lengths of space to ensure enough distance to safely stop or avoid a collision. I see approximately 0% of people following this rule nowadays, and while I try to maintain it myself, it often results in a stream of vehicles merging in front of me and messing up my distance. Fun times.

  • Maybe…to tell you the truth, I’m not sure if the Fairness Doctrine fits this world anymore. You’re right though, while the president can light the fire, it will ultimately be up to Congress to actually do something about it.

Right now corporate news agencies are just mouthpieces for our corporate overlords who buy all of the politicians in order to further enrich themselves at our expense. It’s literally robbing us on a national scale. The less facts people understand, the easier it is for them to pull the wool over our eyes and gaslight us into thinking this is a normal, acceptable situation. Clearly this is not sustainable.

We do need some kind of regulations for news to actually be considered news, and to serve as a mechanism to make them deliver factual, useful information to viewers. Not entirely sure what that would look like tbh.

He did remove their supreme court’s ability to try him for his crimes, his party is the majority in Israeli parliament, he’s disbanded the war cabinet, and they’re actively trying to push back the next election date. So yeah, pretty much a dictator.

Netanyahu would lose a massive amount of power if President Biden would stop sending him so much money and weapons. Even the threat of doing so would have a huge impact. So arguably, a puppet dictator is more accurate. Although the way they interact would lead one to believe Bibi is the actual puppet master.
