This. If you want to be sure that the flacs are worth it, go do one of those 128kbps mp3 vs 320 mp3 vs flac tests and see if you can hear the difference. I can’t, so I just do 128 mp3s and save the storage. Almost 2k songs in 10gb of space :D

Yeah, a friend of mine was recently buying markers, and a lot of companies also just… Don’t have their own stores. They either redirect to Amazon, or if they to they still fulfill it through Amazon. Etsy is also full of resellers.

It’s a word according to wiktionary, and that’s good enough for me

Probably not, no?

Kind of reminds me of a vegan couple I knew in college. They did a speech in class (for public speaking), and one of the points was “Even just cutting meat out one day a week, like with meatless mondays, helps a lot more than you’d expect”
Even cutting back can make a dent

YouTube, in my experience, has been the hardest one to fully cut. Sometimes you need a video tutorial for something, and there just… Isn’t one anywhere but YT. Also a lot of the content types just… Aren’t available elsewhere, and it was hard for a while not having some of my favorite YTers to watch. Nebula, and Dropout definitely helped with that part, though, they had enough that it made it easier.
It did make me realize how dependent I was on YT for emotional regulation, though. I have real bad anxiety, and I realized pretty quickly I was watching things to numb it. Podcasts, music, and to a lesser extent books/fanfic have helped with that though. Generally now I’m looking for people who want to make something good, not make money, and that’s lead me down a lot of really interesting rabbit holes in general with art
(I know a lot of artists are trying to make money, and pay your artists, but there’s a difference between “Making something that will sell” and “Making something you’re proud of hoping people will like it” y’know?)

There was a comedian who did a bit about how she got stopped after a show and told “If you take antidepressants your art will suffer! We wouldn’t have gotten The Sunflowers if Van Gogh was medicated!” to which she pointed out that we only got The Sunflowers because Van Gogh was medicated. He was taking foxglove, an herbal remedy for depression at the time, which has the side effect of making you experience the color yellow a little too intensely.
It will definitely be different. It won’t be worse, though.

They think they exist, but they do not. “Apolitical” usually just means “Fine with the status quo” which isn’t apolitical, it’s at bst non-confrontational. It also tends to reek of ignorance of what’s actually happening around them. That’s all at best, there are tons of people who use “Apolitical” to push far right agendas in spaces not centered around politics.
There’s a reason the joke of “Only two races/genders/etc exist to gamers; white/male/etc, and political.” You can replace gamers with any group that’s (at least perceived to be) predominantly white men, and it still comes out.

Only shopped for groceries every 2 weeks.
Only left the house at all once every 2 weeks.
Didn’t see anyone at all for 3 months straight, and even then it was only twice between March, and July of 2020.
I still don’t think I’ve fully recovered from that tbh.

They’re delicious, and I make them a few times a year.
Yeah, the jello salads are… Something. The sweet ones are great! Fruits, nuts, whipped cream, all of that in jello is fine. It’s when people decide to throw celery and hot dogs in lime jello that it gets more than a little weird.

AFAIK, jambalaya, and gumbo are both USAmerican foods.
There’s also whatever the fuck the Midwest is doing, but we don’t talk about them.
Edit: but but

This. Personal favorite example: Tomatoes didn’t appear in Italian food less than a century before modern English started forming. They’re an American vegetable.

You can sing most Emily Dickens poetry to the Pokémon theme song too.
Also this gem:
(To the power rangers theme) Go, go ninja turtles! Teenage mutant ninja turtles!
There’s tons of things like that, they’re all great xD

Everyone always forgets about WebKit, and QtWebEngine. QtWebEngine is a Blink (Chromium) fork, but it’s so far from the codebase that it’s functionally different. It still does get detected as Chrome tho

It can definitely be both at once. Could be paying an inflated amount, or they could just be doing it to keep FF alive. It’s not like helping their direct competitor provides a direct advantage, and FF would be in a lot worse of a situation without the Google money.

Pretty sure I remember hearing that Microsoft was also the biggest funder for Netscape back in the day.

Yeah. My partner, who notably hates apps (I suggested hermit to turn websites into apps, and they rejected the idea until I reworded it as “Bookmarks”), mostly uses apps. Several people have commented that it’s weird that I use the mobile browser for most social media (Lemmy being the exception).
Yeah it’s apps for everyone now.

It… Really, really is. I remember using Fandom on mobile being so bad I set up an auto redirect to breezewiki, and that was with adblockers. Now that I have DNS-wide adblocking on, when I accidentally click a Fandom link it’s pleasantly surprising how well that’s working.

There definitely are. I’ve met a lot of people who really love their cars, and if I ever talked to them about how I (didn’t) take care of my car they would look at me the same way I look at people who tell me they’ve never even seen the settings menu of their web browser.
Yes, you can, but most would recommend against it because they do spoil, and it’s noticeable when they do
