mal3oon@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Is this the end of Bootloader Unlocking in the EU?English2·2 months agoLuckily now, the hardware is advanced enough that a linux phone is on the edge of being viable. If I can’t unlock a bootloader and compile my own android rom, I won’t be using Android. What’s interesting the open source alternative, like fdroid is really fully replacing the play store for me.

Tech news. Fast tech news. It’s well centralized. Unfortunately nothing comes close (not reddit, nor HN, nor lemmy).
I hate to shill for Google given their recent stanceand steps against AOSP, but early Android was truely open source, and it was amazing. Then the started kneecapping it by making it heavily reliant on google services and being antagonistic against the community. Part of it because China is becoming a gigantic threat, both hardware and software (Huwaei’s latest OS). Still, AOSP has been caught in the crossfire.

mal3oon@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Eu to make Apple open up operating system to rival tech (link added forgot to include it this morning)English1·1 year agoThe thing with AOSP though, that it has the potential to stand on its own, given a talented dev team behind it. I see this everywhere in the ROM communities. So actually Android is a great example, despite what a lot of people say about Google “monopoly”.

Same thing is happening with Electrical Vehicles. Typical capitalist bait and switch.

Telegram is basically creating its own “internet”, albeit much less secure and private, but it’s undoubtedly is really useful for finding dev communities (OSS), support, especially for gray areas like library gensis, z-book, a bit like what aaron shwarz envisioned, the only issue is tying everything to your trust in its leadership not to misuss data, which is kinda laughable

I think this election was mainly focused on Migration, economy and green deal. Mainly why the right took over and the green and left lost. People are seeing the negative effect of migration more and more, and diplomats cannot hide it anymore.

Hamas kidnap kills then kidnap a bunch of israeli people hide them among civilians and within even their refugee camps IDF frees some of them Lots of civilian casualties Pro-Pal peeps, oh no, look what the IDF did
I’m glad the hostages were saved, and can’t wait for hamas to lose.
Reminder that it’s always possible to unlock the bootloader and install Open Source Roms

Germany and Sweden received one of the highest refugee per Capita, were not part of the colonist movement. The Ottomans were colonizing the entirety of the current problematic areas where refugees are coming from (Syria, Libya, North Africa etc …) yet, you’re blaming the West?
I’m half retarded, any videos explaining the structure of Lemmy? No idea the difference between .ml and .cafe, is it supposed to be different subreddits? Or different websites?
mal3oon@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Nvidia overtakes Apple as the second most valuable company.English121·1 year agoTheir main growth drivers are data centers, when demand will dry within 2 years, a bubble will pop. Especially when theoretical architecture of Neural Network change, the need for high performance will decrease.
AMD entered the chat.
They’ve been trying to do it for ages, and they’re forever a tad closer. The software stack is where the challenge lies, not the hardware. Still today, you can buy AMD hardware that on paper is better than Nvidia’s, yet you can’t squeeze out similar performances matching shittier Nvidia cards. Even still, rocm, the ‘cuda’ for AMD, can’t even compete with even vulkan (an open source agnostic backend). So I doubt china will deliver that fast.
