Before shrugging and moving on - ask yourself if you support any smaller private media companies in any way at all - enabling them to bring you news with less bias, less agenda, and more fact checking.

It could be by viewing their ads with your ad blocker off, paying a subscription, or donating.

If you are unwilling to support any such media company in any way, I don’t think a complaint that media is all consolidated and doesn’t have your interests at heart is particularly compelling.

  • It’s normalized in the US to be fat. All the people around are fat too, so they are rarely shaming. You’ll fit right in.

If you’re the only fat one in the group (like when you go to most of Asia) they usually make sure you know - repeatedly - that you’re the fat one. It’s a pretty big incentive to not be that one.

If everyone else is fat too, then why bother (aside from the million health and happiness reasons)

  • Huh, you’re right. I didn’t know about that. From Wikipedia:

The Chinese startup claims to have the miniature device in the pilot testing stage. Unveiled in January 2024, it is allegedly generating 100 microwatts of power and a voltage of 3V and has a lifetime of 50 years without any need for charging or maintenance.

Wonder if it microwaves your balls when it’s in your pocket too.

Either way we can dream of a future where we never have to plug in to charge again.

  • Finding the way from here to there is one of man’s oldest jobs. He’s quite good at it overall. In fact, had he not been proficient, your ancestry wouldn’t have produced you.

Now, man is cooped up in a cubicle, or best case a small box with a transparent glass window view of his old world. Now he’s asked to give long hours of “jumping on calls”, “circling back”, “thinking outside the box”, and chasing the “low hanging fruit” all in exchange for tiny green pieces of paper.

He’s standing in the shadow of his former glory.

For god sakes woman, let the man find the way today.

  • Does anyone remember the inside jokes in the early days of reddit?

When does the narwhal bacon? Orangered Chuck Testa!! Ridiculously photogenic guy And of course the long list of meme-level posts like broken arms, cumbox, celebrity AMAs

This type of community humor made a lot of people feel like they’d found their tribe on reddit in those early days.

I haven’t seen much like this develop on Lemmy yet, possibly because there’s so many disparate communities merging. I’m not really sure. Or maybe all those 20-something redditors are now pushing 40.

I think it will take a while for a lemmy culture to develop and the community won’t attract outsiders much until it does.
