Reminds me of US politics, too.
1st US president: “The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.”
Presidents 2 through 47: join parties

I think if they did a ground-up remake/reimagining of Arena or Daggerfall, it could still be compelling. Not a simple remaster, though.
That being said, there is apparently a Unity port of Daggerfall that appears quite decent, and goes a long way towards modernizing an otherwise ancient game.

I can’t be arsed to keep up with changing the config of the browser I didn’t choose every time the device updates with new admin-defined settings. That’s all.
On my personal device I still use Google right now for consistency/because change is hard, but I set the default behavior in Firefox to exclude AI results.
I’d just prefer to use/support a search engine that abstains from AI entirely, regardless of whether or not you can turn it off. I don’t want to be a happy customer of companies that still try to weasel that stuff in, because they won’t stop at a toggle. They never do.

Yeah but you can do the same with Google as well (just can’t be arsed to change the search settings on my work PC), it’s the principle of the thing.

That’d be my guess.
I have never once went out of my way to use Gemini, for example, but having it appear in every other Google search with some lying bullshit to spread is probably driving up their engagement numbers.
I really should stop using Google. But can’t use DDG either because they just use Bing and their own AI service as well, and so does Kagi.

Even now I feel like I haven’t seen any noticeable performance increase on 5G vs 4G. And yet now whenever I only have a 4G signal, I can barely get websites to load.
I used to be able to video chat with people on the other side of the planet over 4G in 2017. In 2015, I used to be able to tether my phone to my laptop and stream 4K video without issue. I have no idea what they did to make it suck so badly today.
On the other hand, other than the one page shilling a Windows server specifically, there’s nothing else in the content of the story itself indicating that it is specifically a Windows server and not whatever else. Take out that one page and there’s no mention of Windows or Microsoft.
Edit: Nevermind, missed the part on the last page too. Bleh.

I love the implication in the thumbnail as well that he forces his children to have shaved heads like he does.
No soul behind those eyes
She may have single-handedly precipitated the slide into fascism in the US.
If she had simply resigned from her position when she began experiencing health issues, it would have allowed her successor to be nominated and approved under a democratic administration.
Instead, she wanted to retain her position of authority as long as possible, and so her greatest legacy to the US became Amy Coney Barret appointed by Trump and the subsequent series of 5-4 votes in favor of furthering his agenda.

I thought True Colors was decent enough, but by all accounts Double Exposure was nothing special.
I really liked the anthology thing the series was going with, where every game was telling a different story with a different cast. Maybe eventually getting to the core of answering why these random kids have strange abilities.
But the last thing I wanted was them to try to continue from (what I thought was) a perfect ending. Just seems like they’ve lost the point.

Thanks, count me as a new happy subscriber!
To be honest, Elden Ring is the only Souls game I’ve played and so it’s the only one of any real interest to me for now, but I am appreciative of the tags used in the post titles that allow me to filter out the content from other games I’m not interested in seeing. Glad to see content is alive somewhere!

I think people just miss their niche interest communities.
For example, I love Elden Ring, but !eldenring@lemmy.world hasn’t had any new posts in almost a year. Meanwhile the Elden Ring subreddit has a bunch of posts just from the last few minutes.
Still not enough to make me go back to Reddit, but I admit it’s something I miss and something that just can’t be recreated without more people.

No way, Gowron has more honor in his pinky toe than that man has in his entire body.

Yep, it’s wild how long the work of Galen was still considered to be relevant to medicine. If someone needed any work bordering on “surgery” in the 1600’s, they’d likely still be referencing concepts developed in the 3rd century.

Oh yeah. Sometimes I entertain those sorts of “what if” scenarios where, if I were to be transported back to some arbitrary historical time and place, what could I do with what I have to kickstart social/scientific progress.
But underneath every single one of these thought experiments is the ultimate anxiety of “pray you don’t get a bad cut or eat some bad food, then die painfully and horribly of infection or illness.”
There are just substantially fewer safeguards, so you’re at greater risk of everything. Even thinking about having to go to a hospital at the time of my grandparents’ childhood terrifies me. It’s crazy how much medicine has improved just over the past few decades, and has me wondering just how barbaric our own practices today might seem to others in the future.
I don’t believe the default Lemmy interface supports it, yeah. I sometimes use Alexandrite and I don’t think it does, but not 100% certain. Haven’t tried Photon or any of the other options that may be out there.
If you’re on Lemmy.world, try:
Aledandrite - https://a.lemmy.world/
Voyager - https://m.lemmy.world/
Old Reddit - https://old.lemmy.world/
Photon - https://p.lemmy.world/
Tesseract - https://t.lemmy.world/
Not sure what others may be out there, but maybe one of them has the setting you’re looking for.
Edit: Alexandrite does seem to have a “system default” option, so if your system automatically updates theme based on time of day, that may work.
Edit 2: Seeing similar on each of the others, though how well each works, I’m not certain.

To be honest, those tools look like the types of surgical tools I’d still expect to see up until the late 1800’s. It seems like it took a long time for Europe to make improvements in medicine between antiquity and the modern period.
They are, specifically monarchs of House Targaryen. I sorta hate that I know this.
Along the line, they are:
Aenys I Targaryen
Maegor I Targaryen
Jaehaerys I Targaryen
Viserys I Targaryen¹
Aegon II Targaryen¹
Rhaenyra Targaryen¹
Aegon III Targaryen¹
Daeron I Targaryen
Baelor I Targaryen
Aegon IV Targaryen²
Daeron II Targaryen
Daemon I Blackfyre³
Aerys II Targaryen⁴
¹ Appear in the House of the Dragon TV series
² Skipped past Viserys II for some reason
³ A legitimized bastard of House Targaryen who founded his own house
⁴ The last Targaryen monarch, overthrown prior to the events of Game of Thrones. The timeline skips a bunch more names here as well.
