Google set to cancel “7 years of software updates for the Pixel 8”.
Google will be shuddering its “7 years of software updates” program next month, just 1 year after launch. The company sites unforeseen economic changes for the decision.
Your Pixel 8 will continue to work, but no new updates will be coming.
The issue is that those previous promises were for a very short support window
Not really. The previous phones already had a way longer support window than almost any other Android phones on the market, which mostly only get a year or so of updates. It’s a defining feature of pixel phones.
Compared to almost all other android phone marker it’s decent and https://endoflife.date/pixel starting with the pixel 6 gen they got 5 years now 7 with the pixel 8
Google has a great track record at fulfilling its promises of support, but a terrible track record of giving un-promised support. So when they promise support, that should go into the “good track record” column.

Google has so far kept their software update promises for Pixel phones with no issues.

What’s the actual number? We can’t really compare “7 years” and “way longer”.
Pixel 4a just fell out of support, that’s roughly 3 years. Not so great.

Wow, that’s less than my Galaxy S8. It was getting updates from 2017 to 2022.
Previous pixel phones got between 3 and 4 years of updates.
Pixel 6 series and 7 have 5 years and now 7 with the 8 series

Well it is spooky season
You still have unlimited Google photos storage with the first Pixel. I’d say they keep their promises just fine.
Mmm: https://killedbygoogle.com/
Tell that to my otherwise perfectly functioning OnHub router.
Never been so god damn mad, I got three devices replacing it that still can’t match the consistent coverage that thing provided.
