The 10th Judicial Package, presented to the Turkish Parliament by AKP, introduces comprehensive prison sentences aimed at LGBT individuals.

According to the regulation, ‘gender reassignment surgery’ will be performed with state approval, and those who change their gender without approval will be given 3-7 year prison sentences.

This package will also raise the minimum age limit for “gender change” surgeries to be performed by court order will be raised from 18 to 25, and require proof that the individual is “permanently deprived of reproductive capacity”.

In addition, LGBT individuals will be made a crime to hold marriage ceremonies among themselves,

    I take this to mean just the ceremony, right? They probably don’t give marriage licenses already to LGBT people, or their equivalent government approved marriage document. They’re criminalizing throwing a party in celebration of two peoples’ love.

    This is awful like this is such a step back, and it’s even more of a heartbreak they are the safest MM country for gay people. It’s not just about the “ceremony”, it’s about sliding down the slope and then stopping and then giving up just to keep slipping.
