New OLED screen. New APU. And lots of small hardware improvements.
Just when the competition in the handheld space was ramping up, Valve comes back to dunk on them again.
It’s pretty awesome that they also cut the price on the old model. The $400 LCD version now comes with a 256gb NVME SSD rather than the slow eMMC it came with.
Digital Foundry has a video out praising the OLED deck (Richard called it the best screen on a portable gaming device):

As a deck owner, it’s very tempting! If the battery was rated higher, I’d probably bite. As amazing as an OLED would be, it’s not enough for me to upgrade already. Glad those who waited can take advantage though.
It does have a bigger battery, or do you mean more of an upgrade than it is. I’m going to upgrade because I want the OLED.
Yeah I meant more of an upgrade. It’s mostly the lower end of the battery life specrtrum that I’m left wanting more currently, and going from 2hr to 2.5hr isn’t enticing enough for me right now. I also want to get a desktop in the next year or so, so I’ll put my money there for now.
Enjoy the new device when it comes! It’s clearly an amazing upgrade all-around.
