The goal is to slow the spread of a variety of germs, as a confluence of Covid, flu and other respiratory pathogens may set off wider outbreaks that ultimately stretch healthcare systems.
Mask mandates never should have been lifted in the first place. We already have to wear pants, a shirt, and some kind of footwear in public; practically, this doesn’t really have a good reason other than cultural norms. Adding a mask to this is such a simple request, it blows my mind that people are so strongly against it; it’s one of the few requirements for personal attire that actually has a good reason behind it, and it’s incredibly easy to just put on a mask if you’re going to be face-to-face with another person.
Does it really blow your mind? I diligently wore a mask during the thick of the pandemic but I’m not exactly yearning for those days. Being able to see people’s faces is important.
What I’ve learned is that people don’t like to be told what to do even if it is for the benefit of those around them. I’ve seen it mostly in the US where the mask mandate was seen as an attack on personal freedoms and not a response to a public health crisis. As usual, people thinking they are the main characters. Just put the mask on and stfu, no one cares.
You realize there’s a reason they give you antibiotics after surgeries right? It’s PRECISELY because of infection vectors like that during the surgery.
Yes. I’ve been in a lot of operating rooms for a lot of different surgeries. It’s also common to give antibiotics before a surgery…and wear surgical masks… which is my point, also in the context of COVID masks still work to reduce the spread of a virus. Antibiotics will not work against a virus.

“Why yes, we could both kill each other in this tight space, but at least I can see your beautiful face.”
Blows my mind we still need to have this talk. Just wear the fucking mask inside and admire faces outside.
I wont if it’s not necessary, and right not it isn’t. You can do it if you want.

N95 then? The surgical ones are useless. Mandated knee pads and helmets also!
Not useless, surgical masks reduce spread by more than 50% so far as I recall. Not perfect, but not useless.
Yes, please make sure if you have surgery you tell your surgeon “no need to wear a mask, just a helmet and some knee pads”.
