A suspected arson at a hotel in remote Rosscahill is the latest in a wave of attacks on asylum seeker housing, amid rising anti-immigrant rhetoric fuelled by far-right groups.

There is nothing new here. There has always been a vocal, violent, right leaning minority in Irish society. There have been two instances that have made headlines around the world in the past few weeks that may make it seem like Irish society in general is leaning further to the right. I hope this isn’t true.

This is part of my issue, it gives a bigger voice than deserved to the right.
This is a failing in communication by the government that exasperated a festering issue when it could have been avoided.
